International Women’s Day
In advance of International Women’s Day (#IWD2020), the Meds We Can Trust campaign is sharing some suggested social content to raise awareness of the issues women and mothers face in accessing quality-assured medical products.
Approximately 830 women die every day from preventable causes when giving birth, and post-partum hemorrhage (PPH) – excessive bleeding after childbirth – remains the leading cause of death for these women. PPH is, however, a condition that is preventable through the administration of a uterotonic drug, such as oxytocin.
Unfortunately, women around the world are receiving doses of oxytocin that are substandard or falsified, and as a result, simply don’t work. Globally, quality is not guaranteed and universal access to quality-assured oxytocin could save the lives of 1.4 million mothers within the next decade.
